Frequently Asked Questions

The questions that come up most often when using the site.

Is it free? Do I need an account?

It is free and there is no account to create. Open the page and the fire is already burning.

Is it a video on a loop?

No. The flames, sparks, smoke and raindrops are drawn in your browser in real time. Nothing repeats, and changes to the flame size take effect immediately. The sound is not a recording either; it is generated live.

There is no sound.

Browsers block sound until you press something yourself. Press Light the fire on the opening screen, or the speaker button at the bottom of the picture. If you still hear nothing, check in Sound and display that the master volume and the individual sounds are not at zero, and check your device's volume and silent mode. On an iPhone, sound may be muted while the silent switch on the side is on.

I cannot see the fullscreen button.

In browsers that do not support fullscreen for web pages, such as Safari on iPhone, the button is not shown. Turning the device sideways shrinks the address bar and gives you more of the screen.

The screen keeps turning off.

While the sound is on or the page is in fullscreen, the browser is asked to keep the screen awake. If you are watching with the sound off and not in fullscreen, the screen may turn off according to your device's power settings. In some browsers and power-saving modes the feature does not work at all; in that case, lengthen your device's auto-lock time.

The fire stutters, or my device gets warm.

Drawing a fire in real time can be demanding on older devices. Lowering the flame size in Sound and display reduces the work. Making the browser window smaller helps too.

Does the sound keep playing when I switch tabs?

Yes. The sound continues when you move to another tab. Drawing stops automatically while the page is hidden, so it puts no load on your device.

My settings are gone.

Settings are stored only in the browser you are using. They are not shared with other devices, other browsers or private (incognito) windows, and they are reset if you clear the browser's site data.

What happens when the timer ends?

Over the final stretch the sound and the light fade gradually and then go out. Press Light it again afterwards to start up as before.

Does it work offline?

If the page is already open, the fire and the sound carry on without a connection. After your first visit the page is also stored on your device, so it can usually be opened again offline.

Which browsers are supported?

Current versions of the major browsers: Chrome, Edge, Safari, Firefox and Samsung Internet. Some features may not work in very old browsers.
