Sound Mixes for Every Mood

The sounds on this site are not recordings on a loop. They are generated in the browser as you listen, so no stretch ever repeats, and you can set the level of each layer to build your own atmosphere. Press the Sound and display button at the bottom of the picture and set the sliders to the values below. The numbers are approximate slider positions from 0 to 100.

There is water and noise too

Besides these four there are thunder, waves, a stream, white noise and brown noise. If setting them one by one is a chore, press one of the Moods at the top of the sound panel: Focus, Sleep, Storm, Seaside, Forest or Campfire. What each contains is listed in Using the mood presets, and the kinds of noise are explained in White, pink and brown noise: what is the difference?

Things to keep in mind

Pick one sound to lead. With all four turned up, they bury each other and it just sounds like noise. Keep the sound you most want to hear loud and the rest well below it.

Rain and crickets rarely go together. When it actually rains, you can hardly hear insects. Of course, you can mix them if you like the result.

Earphones and speakers sound different. The small speakers in phones and laptops cannot reproduce low frequencies well, so the deep roar of the fire sounds weak. It is much fuller through earphones or an external speaker.

Once you have set your levels they are saved in the browser, so you do not need to adjust them again next time. They are stored separately for each scene, so the fireplace can stay quiet while the rainy campsite keeps its heavy rain.
